PAUL HAGUE'S STORY - WHY I'M TAKING PART IN SWIMATHON 2020

Paul Hague has been taking part in Swimathon for 10 years, and has now swum 1,600 lengths of his local pool to support Marie Curie Nurses, after they cared for his uncle Gordon at home.  

Paul remembers how much the care of Marie Curie Nurses meant during that difficult time: “My uncle Gordon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just after his 58th birthday.  He was cared for in his own home in Sheffield by Marie Curie Nurses.  Auntie Elaine said they were amazing when they came to look after Gordon overnight”

“Swimming in memory of Uncle Gordon is really poignant.  My whole family has supported me – my children started taking part in Swimathon when they were six and ten, GrandmaAnn made a banner to encourage us, Auntie Elaine comes to cheer us on, and my wife supports by lane counting”

“It really is worth it when you see how much you’ve raised and I would encourage everyone to go for it.  It’s a nice, supportive atmosphere, but most importantly, the fundraising makes such a difference and helps other families like mine benefit from the care of a Marie Curie Nurse”
