Ladi Ajayi - Swimathon Ambassador

You may recognise our newest ambassador from the popular BBC television series, Race Across The World – a warm welcome to Swimathon’s newest ambassador, Ladi Ajayi!

Ladi, Head of Sport at AKD Solutions, broke onto our screens in Series 3 of the BBC television series Race Across The World, where Ladi and his daughter, Monique, trekked across Canada on a shoestring budget in hopes of winning the top cash prize.

Ladi works as a consultant and advocate for physical activity, and has devoted his time in projects that encourage people from all backgrounds to get more involved, not only with swimming, but with sport and physical exercise.

Ladi also works closely with Swimathon partner BADU Sports who use sports and mentoring to empower, educate and uplift the community and their families. BADU provides swimming sessions to all ages and backgrounds throughout the year with opportunities to take part in a range of events with the key aim to encourage the Black and global majority group to become water confident while developing their swimming ability.

Swimming has played a major role in Ladi’s life. Although Ladi learnt to swim at his primary school in Hackney, it wasn’t until he started attending swimming lessons with his friends where he saw his confidence and competence in the water grow.

Ladi says “being water confident has lead me on to fully engage in all water sports from canoeing, sailing water-skiing, scuba diving, any and everything to do with water but most of all I always come back to swimming.”

Ladi has completed Swimathon for a number of years, and he says that his motivation in taking part is “to encourage and show people what they are capable of, supporting the good causes and charities that Swimathon support, getting people into the water and concerning any fears or doubts that they have of water.”

“I’m so excited to be an ambassador this year for Swimathon and hope my involvement will encourage people from all backgrounds to get involved.

It’s an absolute pleasure to have Ladi on board as a Swimathon ambassador for 2024!
